The Problem:
We've all noticed that the traditional school system is outdated. Most schools have a one-size-fits-all approach toward education, even though different students may want to pursue different things or have different ways of learning and understanding the material better. In the past, information wasn't as readily available as now, so students have to look up to their teachers for their education.
Now, after technological advancements such as the internet, the world is more connected, and students aren't confined to their schools as their main source of information.

Here at GEM Academy, we believe that each child is a gem waiting to shine, and it is our role to help bring them to their full potential.
Our learning model is designed to ready students for life rather than pass standardized tests, as well as to apply sustainable practices all over the school and the curriculum.
We mixed together aspects of Self directed learning and Finnish education to build a curriculum that can better equip students for life.

Our Approach:
Flexible learning
We have compulsory classes for the main subjects, then the students are offered electives in which they want to pursue. The students will also be offered free time everyday where they are left on their own to study more for themselves.
Sustainable Living
We promote sustainable living to students by building a sustainable school as well as integrate sustainable choices in our curriculum.

Our Story
We're a team of students aged 12-15 years old from Israel, the Philippines and Saudi Arabia who participated in the International Virtual Hackathon (Vickathon) with the theme:
"How Will the School of the Future Look Like".
We started by sharing problems we see in our schools. In the end, we all agreed on the lack of educational freedom and flexibility in traditional schools.
