INTEGRATED ACTIVITIES
Integrated curriculum emphasizes the importance of keeping the family together, affirms that each child is unique in his or her learning journey and builds upon relevant cultural ideas and the current interests of the kids. For example, we started reading the book, “Maria’s Colorful Banca” and as we read aloud, we tried figuring out how to tell the story in sign language.
Digging deeper into some concepts found in the book, we talked about:
(CRAFT: popsicle stick, colored paper and plastic book cover to make dragonflies)
- watched short film called, “Ang Pagbabalik ng mga Tutubing Kalabaw.” (which led to a discussion on the significance of insects in measuring the health of the ecosystem, and how modernization and pollution has drastically reduced their population)
- Mom and Dad's childhood and how we used to chase fireflies and catch dragonflies and beetles
CREATING MINI-BOOKS
Canva for kids! Here's a fun way to make your own stories. Canva is so easy to use that even our 4-year old Anica is making fun stuff with it. This is a sample of what our Grade 1 Kuya Asher made today with a little help with mainly just editing the spelling and in putting togeher his voice with the storybook pages. It's a good writing exercise and he gets to practice his spelling and punctuation as well.
The kids also make mini-books using cardstock and markers, but Canva makes it possible for them to explore their ideas more using the available elements in Canva. This activity can be their integrated performance task for English, Computer, Art, and Values.

One of the things which our family is involved in is animal rescue, having adopted two dogs from Open Paws Jeddah as well as worked with another rescue group based here called Furr Family Care Love.
We realized we could combine our passion for creating in Canva with our own advocacy about animal welfare.

CHILD-LED ACTIVITIES
Yesterday, we woke up to the shocking news of what happened to Afghanistan. We talked about it during our devotions. We watched videos to understand more about what was happening. We prayed together for the people who are caught in this extremely difficult struggle. We have to understand that although their suffering seems so far away, we are all connected somehow.
Afterwards, the kids were asked write their own prayer for Afghanistan. Our Kuya Sam decided he wanted to make a simple presentation in Canva and write his prayer there. This is what he came up with.

Ievan polkka BY LOITUMA
“Ievan Polkka”, known by its official English title as "Eva's Polka" is a 1930s traditional Finnish song. It was revived in the mid-1990s by Finnish band Loituma where it has amassed over 6 million views on YouTube. In 2007, a cover by Otomania was released featuring vocals by Hatsune Miku.

ASHER'S READING PARTY
Learning by head, hand, and heart.
Today we hear a lot about how education should not only be focused on academic skills, but instead how there should be an emphasis on socio-emotional learning. Human skills such as empathy, compassion, and authenticity are important as we aim for holistic education for our kids.
It's things like this -- Asher's simple idea of having a "Reading Party" with his siblings, that make me as a parent more proud than having a perfect score in an exam or winning a school competition. It serves as a reminder to me of our "why" in homeschooling -- that ultimately, it is their character that we hope to mold.

FOOD CHALLENGE (GIFT)
"Delicious and Nutritious K-12 Food Challenge" is a collaborative project from Global Innovation Field Trip and Tailored Foods.
The challenge is to select a locally accessible, fresh, healthy food and build a creative marketing campaign to convince other kids to try your food.
WMK Kids cooked "lugaw" or Filipino rice porridge using black and brown rice, took photos and videos, and used CANVA to create their leaflet and short commercial.
SELF-PUBLISHING DIY PLANNER
Sharing with you a passion project we worked on just before the end of 2021.
"2022 Desert Life Planner" is now available on Amazon.
We've just discovered this new world of self-published books through Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) and this Planner was made in Canva. Since Canva has a limit of 100 pages, we had to make 2 files: (1) Journal and monthly pages, and (2) weekly pages and put it together using PDF-Xchange Editor.
All the illustrations and designs were made by our Ate Allyra Macaisa using Procreate and uploaded in Canva. We also added Bible verses for each monthly and weekly page to encourage and inspire.
ART FOR PEACE
Children's voices need to be heard.
When we talk of conflict or war in other countries, kids are sometimes left feeling helpless because they become aware of what is going on but they don't know what they can do to help.
This is why WonderfullyMadeKids collaborated with Global Innovation Field Trip to give an opportunity for young people to share their ideas about peace through their drawings, paintings, crafts, digital posters, short videos, and even through singing and dancing. Through this project, "Art for Peace," the voices of the young generation calling for peace will be heard across the nations.
The submitted artworks will be showcased at the Global Innovation Field Trip on April 23-24, 202. It is our hope that through this collective voice of the young generation, we can inspire and encourage more peace in our world.

ART FOR PEACE
Sunflowers are Ukraine's national flower. It has become a symbol of the Ukrainian people's resistance against the invasion by Russian forces.
As we painted sunflowers for the "Art for Peace" challenge, with their colors so cheerful and so full of life, we are reminded of how it is the exact opposite of the destruction that is the result of war.
As we share our artworks, we pray for peace in Ukraine and in the whole world.
INTEREST-LED LEARNING
We just finished a video call with her grandma when our littlest one who just turned five asks why is it nighttime where grandma lives but still daytime where we are. We could have just as easily watched a YouTube video that explains this with animation, but Dad always explains Science and Math better so I made sure he did once he got home from work. So, the kids had an impromptu lesson on the Earth's rotation and revolution which is a review for our older kids and the answer to our little girl's question.
I read recently a post from @therealleahmcd that says, "There hasn't been a better time in all of history to be learning with your kids." Knowledge is everywhere, and so as long as we allow our kids to be curious and guide them to the right answers, they will learn. Education is not the same anymore. This littlest one learned how to read because she wanted to figure out how to type the words in Minecraft. She literally caught us by surprise because we don't do any formal lessons at all.
We love the flexibility and spontaneity that homeschool education brings. Plans are good, but we've also embraced not having to stick to one. Today, the kids explored how to make lever puppets because I saw a post about it somewhere and thought it was a good idea. Tomorrow, well, we still have to see what tomorrow has in store for us.
RAINBOW STUDY
When our littlest one found our old prism, she insisted on trying it out to make a rainbow.
This curious young scientist would often request that we try out experiments she's found on YouTube.
WMK GOES TO THE METAVERSE
As we explore, discover, and learn together, we trust and seek God's purpose and plan in our lives. For we believe God is sovereign over all the universe, and that includes the metaverse.
"For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.'" - Colossians 1:16
As homeschoolers, we always do everything together at home. Devotions with multi-grade-level kids often mean that as we dig deeper in our study, the little ones switch to playing while in the same room, and that's fine. They absorb what they can even if they're playing.
Discovering the metaverse is a fun way we can continue our daily discussions but in a more interesting environment. Even our almost 5-year old is able to navigate so well -- our digital natives are so metaverse-ready. It allows us to bond in a different way and also inspires them to be creative in their play. So far, we've been to Onyx University, Gathertown, Edumetaverse, and our devo today, in Sam's room at Mozilla Hubs.
GLOBAL INNOVATION FIELD TRIP
What does it mean to be a global learner?
Global learning is about connecting students and facilitating educational experiences that allow them to learn and appreciate diverse perspectives, communicate and collaborate across cultures and countries, and value the growing interconnectivity of the world which enables them to see how they can take purposeful action to improve their own lives and have a positive impact to others.
The Global Innovation Field Trip (GIFT) has been a big eye-opener for our family. Watching all the amazing things that other young people are doing from all over the world inspired and encouraged us to also be more involved and engaged in sharing in this platform as well.
Mom officially became part of the GIFT Team this January and worked on this video using the script made by GIFT Founders Juli Shively and Jake Mendelssohn. WMK kids did the voice-overs and this was shown first during the January 2022 Global Innovation Field Trip 10 days ago.
It is our hope that our children will continue to be engaged and be global learners that inspire others to be the same. We are grateful to be part of GIFT and would like to encourage others to participate as well.

As part of our mission of providing meaningful and purposeful learning activities for our young people, we organized a series of online FUNDRAISING WORKSHOPS FOR PEACE for the benefit of:
WORKSHOPS FOR PEACE
One of our main workshops is a “Kids Inventing for Peace Workshop.” We’ve met with the inventor of “BetterBlocks”
Warren Wilson from Australia who’s going to share his passion for inventing. The first building block system to successfully compete with Lego, BetterBlocks sold over 2 million kits in the 1990s.
These unique blocks bend, move, and connect with all standard blocks as well. He eventually sold the business and moved on to consultation with global corporations, but he's also very eager to encourage kids and he created STEAM programs about inventing, engineering, and entrepreneurship..
WORKSHOPS FOR PEACE
"My Favorite Place"
Some said they liked the beach while others liked the forest, and some just liked to stay at home. Some of the kids said they would like to one day visit Austria, Belgium, Germany, or Australia. We all have these places that are close to our hearts.
But what do you do when your favorite place -- your home -- is in danger? Teacher Ten (Krysten) shares with us the reality of how war is threatening to take away the place she cares most about -- the place she now considers as her beloved home -- Ukraine. This video shows a clip from the pre-workshop meeting that we had with her and it was both insightful and inspiring.
ICIA 2022 (KRYA)
Did you know that extending the life of your clothes for at least 1 more year reduces its carbon footprint by around 30%? Introducing, "Denim Slayer: Slashing down carbon footprint one pair of jeans at a time!"
